Reproducibility in Evolutionary Computation

چکیده
Experimental studies are prevalent in Evolutionary Computation (EC), and concerns about the reproducibility replicability of such have increased recent times, reflecting similar other scientific fields. In this article, we discuss, within context EC, different types suggest a classification that refines badge system Association Computing Machinery (ACM) adopted by ACM Transactions on Learning Optimization (https://dlnext.acm.org/journal/telo). We identify cultural technical obstacles to EC field. Finally, provide guidelines tools may help overcome some these obstacles.

Railway track intervention planning is the process of specifying the location and time of required maintenance and renewal activities. To facilitate the process, decision support tools have been developed and typically use an expert system built with rules specified by track maintenance engineers. However, due to the complex interrelated nature of component deterioration, it is problematic for ...

This chapter addresses the integration of knowledge discovery in databases (KDD) and evolutionary algorithms (EAs), particularly genetic algorithms and genetic programming. First we provide a brief overview of EAs. Then the remaining text is divided into three parts. Section 2 discusses the use of EAs for KDD. The emphasis is on the use of EAs in attribute selection and in the optimization of p...

Evolution does not require DNA, or even living organisms. In computer science, the field known as 'evolutionary computation' uses evolution as an algorithmic tool, implementing random variation, reproduction and selection by altering and moving data within a computer. This harnesses the power of evolution as an alternative to the more traditional ways to design software or hardware. Research in...
متن کاملEvolutionary Computation
Evolutionary Computation is a general term for a group of techniques which solve complex problems quickly and efficiently by using principles derived from biological evolution and genetics. The two most prominent methods are genetic algorithms and genetic programming. The classic references are Holland (1975) for genetic algorithms (GAs) and Koza (1992) for genetic programming (GPs). Fundamenta...
متن کاملTransparency and reproducibility in evolutionary research
The vitality of the science of evolutionary biology depends on new research findings that continually advance understanding, and the sound approaches by which those findings are obtained must be clearly documented. This transparency of documentation crucially grounds others’ assessment of the credibility of the inferences and interpretations. It is also essential to attempts of future scientist...
